The Department of Mathematics was established as part of the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Sargodha, Pakistan in 1985. It offers teaching and research in Mathematics and serves students, scholars, and professionals interested in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Numerical Analysis, Differential Equations, Mathematical Modelling, and emerging interdisciplinary areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Our vision is to become a leading centre of excellence in mathematical education and research, recognized for academic quality, innovation, scholarly contributions, and service to society. Our mission is to deliver rigorous, research-oriented, and application-driven education, produce meaningful research, and develop graduates who are skilled, ethical, and prepared for the demands of academia, industry, scientific research, and other professional fields. The department offers 4 programs: e.g. BS, BS (5th Semester Intake), MPhil and PhD in Mathematics. It also promotes emerging academic opportunities in interdisciplinary areas such as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. The curriculum combines strong theoretical foundations with computational training, analytical problem-solving, mathematical modelling, and research skills. Academic programs are reviewed and updated in accordance with applicable national standards, the recommendations of relevant academic bodies, and evolving educational and professional needs. Admission requirements for each program are available through the University of Sargodha's official website and admission portal. Teaching is delivered by 22 faculty members, including 21 PhD holders, who are active researchers and experienced practitioners. Students develop their mathematical and computational skills through lectures, seminars, research activities, mathematical software, computational tools, and independent and collaborative projects. They also benefit from university library facilities, digital learning resources, scholarly publications, and other academic support services available at the University of Sargodha. The department continues to promote academic excellence, research productivity, and professional development through scholarly publications, research collaborations, seminars, workshops, and national and international conferences. The department's annual International Conference on Pure and Applied Mathematics provides a platform for researchers, academicians, and students to exchange ideas and discuss recent developments in mathematical sciences and their applications. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects, academic presentations, competitions, and other scholarly activities that enable them to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom. Looking ahead, the department is committed to modernizing teaching and research facilities, strengthening computational and interdisciplinary research, introducing innovative academic programs where appropriate, and expanding collaborations with national and international universities, research institutions, and relevant industries. Our graduates pursue careers in education, research, banking and finance, data analytics, information technology, computational sciences, government organizations, and other sectors that require strong mathematical and analytical skills. Many continue to higher studies and advanced research at reputable national and international institutions, while others contribute to their professions as educators, researchers, analysts, and leaders.
