Overview

To pay tribute to her services, Sargodha University established an Art Gallery at the Institute of Art & Design on 16th February, 2019. It is a great honour for the institute to have the first syndicate approved art gallery of the region on the name of such a prodigious artist. The inaugural art exhibition at the gallery was on Pak-China friendship to strengthen the friendly relations between both countries. This exhibition was inaugurated by H. E. Yao Jing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China. After the successful inaugural exhibition on Pak-China friendship, Zubeida Agha Art Gallery continued to organize an entrancing group and solo exhibitions. Among many group shows at the gallery, a group exhibition of young artists got fame and attention of senior renowned artists. In this exhibition whole faculty of Institute of Art & Design and many young artists participated from across Pakistan. Another exhibition on the Contemporary art and a mystical exhibition on calligraphy was held which brought the attention and admiration of the well renowned senior artists towards the gallery. Later a great group show was organized on the theme of Landscapes of Punjab in which famous artists like Mian Ijaz ul Hassan, Dr. Rahat Masud, Mustafa, Asim Amjad, and Nadeem Alam participated and encouraged the young Sargodhians to excel in the field. Recently a great solo show by a famous painter and writer, Javed Akhtar on ‘Reflections of Life’ was organized by the gallery that left a mesmeric impact on viewers.

Zubeida Agha

Zubeida Agha was among the first Pakistani Modern Artists. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, she was the first artist to hold an exhibition of her paintings. She helped bring the modern idiom to Pakistan. She is the obvious beginning for this representation of our contemporary art practice. She is also named 'The Grande Dame of Pakistani art'. She was awarded the President’s Medal for Pride of Performance in 1965 and Tamgha-e-Quaid-e-Azam by the Government of Pakistan in 1982.
