The University of Sargodha observed Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and a renewed pledge to contribute to the country’s progress and prosperity.
The celebrations commenced with a flag-hoisting ceremony led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, deans, directors, heads of academic and administrative departments, faculty and staff members, and a large number of children attended the ceremony.
The national anthem was played and patriotic national songs were presented, creating an atmosphere charged with national spirit and highlighting the participants’ love for the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas said Independence Day was not merely an occasion to commemorate a historic milestone but also an opportunity to renew the collective resolve to strengthen Pakistan through hard work, integrity, responsibility and positive contribution to society.
He said the youth were the country’s most valuable asset and future builders, and their responsibility was to contribute to national development through education, research, innovation and character building. He said universities had a vital role in producing knowledgeable, responsible and skilled citizens capable of addressing the country’s social and economic challenges.
The Riaz Shad Co-curricular Forum organised an Urdu speech competition, essay writing competition, quiz competition and national songs competition as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated their academic, literary, creative and speaking abilities while reflecting on the struggle for Pakistan, patriotism and the responsibilities of the younger generation.
To appreciate the participants’ efforts, the vice chancellor distributed cash prizes among the winners. The first, second and third position holders received Rs5,000, Rs3,000 and Rs2,000, respectively.
The Directorate of Sports also organised exhibition cricket matches and karate performances by children. Sargodha District Police Officer Muhammad Tauqeer Naeem attended the event as chief guest and appreciated the children for their performances.
Faculty members, staff, students and children participated in the Independence Day celebrations in large numbers.
