The University of Sargodha (UoS) distributed Chinese Ambassador Scholarships worth Rs1.784 million among 158 students at a ceremony organised by the Pakistan Institute of China Studies (PICS) in collaboration with the Student Financial Aid Office, Directorate of Academics and the Confucius Institute.
The scholarships were awarded to students from various academic departments on merit and need basis to support their educational pursuits and help them overcome financial constraints.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, who attended the ceremony as chief guest, distributed scholarship cheques and certificates among the recipients. Speaking on the occasion, he said the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme reflected the shared commitment of Pakistan and China to promoting academic excellence, educational equity and youth empowerment.
The Vice Chancellor also said that educational cooperation had played a vital role in strengthening the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries, adding that such initiatives not only provided financial support to deserving students but also encouraged them to achieve higher academic standards and contribute positively to society.
Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan, Pro Vice Chancellor and guest of honour, appreciated the continued support of the Embassy of the Peopleโs Republic of China for facilitating educational opportunities for Pakistani students. He said investment in talented youth was essential for national development and the preparation of future leaders and professionals.
Earlier, Director Pakistan Institute of China Studies and Host Director of the Confucius Institute, Prof. Dr. Tahir Mumtaz Awan, highlighted the role of academic collaboration in further strengthening Pakistan-China relations. He said PICS and the Confucius Institute had been promoting research, cultural exchange and educational cooperation between the two countries through a range of academic initiatives.
He thanked the Student Financial Aid Office for facilitating the scholarship process and announced that funding of around Rs7 million had already been secured from the Chinese Embassy and the Consulate General of China in Lahore for the next cohort of scholarships.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of scholarship certificates and cheques among the successful students.
