University of Sargodha hosted the concluding ceremony of the All-Pakistan Universities Football Championship 2025-26, where State Minister for Health Services Dr Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bherth said sports taught young people how to rise after failure and turn defeat into success.
Addressing the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest, Dr Bherth said sporting activities encourag youth to adopt healthy and positive lifestyles while providing them opportunities to showcase their talent at national and international levels.
He said talented young athletes not only bring pride to themselves but also earn recognition for the country through their achievements.
The ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Masood Sarwar Awan, businessman Rana Shahid Mehmood, Director Sports Mehr Ahmed Khan Haral, Chairman University Sports Committee Prof Dr Ijaz Rasool Noorka, university officials, players, coaching staff and a large number of students.
Dr Bharath said he felt proud to belong to the same region and praised the rapid progress made by the university over the past two decades at both national and international levels.
Referring to the country’s recent challenges, he said Pakistan had started transforming “the impossible into possible” in recent years and expressed confidence that the younger generation would play a key role in shaping the country’s future.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Abbas said universities were not merely centres of learning but institutions that helped develop the physical, mental and leadership abilities of students.
He said sports promoted discipline, tolerance, teamwork and healthy competition among young people, adding that inter-university competitions also strengthened inter-provincial harmony by bringing together students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
The vice chancellor said 12 universities from across the country participated in the championship and appreciated the Directorate of Sports for organising the event successfully.
At the end of the ceremony, trophies were distributed among the top three teams. University of the Punjab secured first position, followed by University of Central Punjab in second place, while Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan finished third.
