A high-profile delegation from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad visited the University of Sargodha (UoS) to review its ongoing academic, research, and administrative progress. The visit focused on assessing newly launched academic programs, their alignment with market needs, institutional infrastructure, and compliance with HEC quality standards.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Imran Ghafoor, Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), while Registrar Waqar Ahmad briefed the guests on the University’s academic landscape, research output, infrastructure development, and administrative frameworks.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, in his address to the delegation, highlighted the University’s transformative role in reshaping the educational, economic, and social fabric of the region. He proudly announced that UoS has earned a prestigious place in HEC’s ‘X’ category, which is a recognition of excellence made possible through the tireless efforts of faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff.
Emphasizing innovation and research capacity, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the University has submitted 40 patents for registration this year, a significant leap from the total of just nine in previous years. He also underscored the University’s commitment to sustainability, sharing that UoS is now fully powered by solar energy. We recently inaugurated a 2.6 MW solar power project with the support of the provincial Minister for Higher Education, making us a leader in sustainable energy use within the higher education sector, he said.
Dr. Abbas also shared key initiatives aimed at skill development, including the establishment of modern laboratories, advanced incubation centers, and hands-on training programs designed to equip students for real-world challenges. We are moving beyond traditional education by preparing our students to thrive in a dynamic and competitive global environment, he noted.
In a major development, the Vice Chancellor announced a collaborative project with China to establish a state-of-the-art hospital and boarding school on campus, a project he described as a “gateway to a new era of knowledge and development.”
The HEC delegation expressed high appreciation for the University’s performance and vision under the leadership of Dr. Qaisar Abbas. The University of Sargodha is advancing rapidly and strategically. The facilities, discipline, and direction displayed here are in line with the highest standards of modern academia, a senior HEC official remarked. The delegation praised the infrastructure, quality assurance mechanisms, and the diverse opportunities being offered to students and faculty alike.
During their visit, the delegation toured several academic departments, research laboratories, the central library, administrative blocks, and the University’s flagship incubation center. They interacted with faculty and students and showed keen interest in the innovative projects and academic initiatives underway.
The visit concluded on a high note, with the HEC delegation acknowledging the University of Sargodha as a model institution exemplifying academic excellence, institutional innovation, and strategic growth.
