Prof Dr Najma Iqbal Malik, Chairperson of the Department of Psychology and Incharge Counseling Centre, being part of 26 Senior Leaders of Cohort 1, attended the final component of the Pakistan Higher Education Women Leadership Program 2022-2023 “Empowering Women Leaders’ Summit” organised by the Michigan State University College of Education and MSU VIPP which kickstarted at Marriott Islamabad (7-11 October 2023) with Program Leads and Mentors from MSU, USA travelled to Pakistan for the final Program inputs and closure with 26 Senior Leaders Cohort and 73 Aspiring Women Leaders Cohort. The week-long finale commenced with critical reflections and a SWOT analysis of Women's Leadership and Leadership Development, stimulating stories of program impact and outcomes with future pathways for sustainability. This program was one of the distinctively powerful programs for tackling a problem that requires urgent, holistic, and unbiased attention, engaging all stakeholders across cultures, contexts and hierarchies. The senior leaders' cohort members, 26 senior university women leaders from diverse backgrounds, showcased their inquiry projects, which they started last fall at Michigan State University. A gallery walk featuring the projects led to so much excitement and pride. Some of the topics around sustainability included how to tell the success stories and impact of our work, how to implement mentoring programs, how to sustain our network, and how to continue the efforts of empowering women. What a significant milestone for the two-year program and a new beginning of strengthening and expanding the network for more inclusive women leadership development. Prof Dr Najma Iqbal Malik presented her Inquiry project, “Enhancement of Teacher’s Leadership at Higher Education Institutes”. This project nurtured the capacity building of teachers at higher academic institutes through a teacher leadership program, the enhancement of personal and professional skills of teachers at higher academia, to help teachers improve and enhance their emotional and psychological wellness, to harness teachers at HEIs using new and innovative methods in teaching so that students become more creative, active and original thinkers and to target teachers’ existing teaching philosophy and making them think and act in new ways through cognitive, relational and task crafting techniques.
This Women Leaders’ Summit crystallised the program vision with a unique design carefully grounded in theory and the landscape of higher education practices globally and implementing it throughout the two years with impressive commitment yielding outcomes and impact including:
1) Redefining the scope of Women's Leadership and its ensuing discourses and efforts.
