Sargodha, Pakistan — 11 October 2026 The Women Development Centre (WDC), University of Sargodha, observed the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October 2026, highlighting the importance of ending child marriage and protecting the rights, dignity, and future of every girl. This year’s international theme, “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!”, calls for collective action to protect girls from early marriage and ensure their access to education, healthcare, safety, and equal opportunities. According to the United Nations, child marriage continues to deprive millions of girls of their childhood and limits their opportunities to learn, grow, and make decisions about their futures. The 2026 theme responds to a global crisis where around 12 million girls are still married each year. The Women Development Centre emphasizes that every girl deserves the opportunity to complete her education, pursue her ambitions, and live free from discrimination, violence, and harmful practices. Ending child marriage requires awareness, supportive families, accessible education, effective protection measures, and the active participation of communities and institutions. DC, University of Sargodha, reaffirms its commitment to promoting gender equality, raising awareness about girls’ rights, and encouraging a supportive environment in which every girl can reach her full potential. Every girl deserves a childhood, an education, and the freedom to shape her own future. Women Development Centre (WDC)
