Vice Chancellor University of Sargodha Prof. Dr. Tasawar Hayat (H.I., S.I., T.I.) attended an event titled “A Tribute to Sadequain” as Chief Guest, organized by the Institute of Art and Design, University of Sargodha, in collaboration with Gallery 21 and Sadequain Foundation USA.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the vital role of art and design in shaping a thoughtful, creative and sensitive society. He emphasized that education and national development require a balanced focus on both science and the arts, while stressing the importance of preserving Pakistan’s cultural heritage and carrying Sadequain’s remarkable legacy forward to the younger generation.
Prof. Dr. Tasawar Hayat appreciated the efforts of the Institute of Art and Design for organizing the event and providing students with an opportunity to engage with Pakistan’s rich artistic heritage.
In her opening address, Director Institute of Art and Design Ms. Maryam Saif said that the gathering was an opportunity to pay tribute to Sadequain and reconnect with his artistic expression, a language that continues to find new eyes and new appreciation among successive generations.
Guest speakers included Dr. Sumera Jawad and Mr. Nadeem Alam from College of Art and Design, University of the Punjab, and Dr. Farrukh Seir from Gallery 21 Islamabad. The speakers said Sadequain’s life, philosophy, calligraphy and monumental works reflected a distinctive artistic vision and established him as a national treasure who gave a new dimension to modern Pakistani art.
The Vice Chancellor also inaugurated the “Raaz-e-Fun” Art Exhibition at the Zubeida Agha Art Gallery, Institute of Art and Design. The exhibition features rare artworks and tributes inspired by Sadequain’s distinctive artistic style and will remain open for students and art enthusiasts, providing an opportunity to explore and appreciate the artist’s enduring legacy.
