About Faculty/Overview:
Established in 2013, the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Sargodha has evolved into a dynamic academic community committed to intellectual excellence, critical inquiry and meaningful societal transformation. As one of the University's largest and most academically diverse faculty, it fosters an interdisciplinary environment where teaching, research, innovation and community engagement converge to address contemporary societal challenges.
The Faculty comprises nine academic units: Institute of Education, Malik Firoz Khan Noon Business School and Departments of Economics, History and Pakistan Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology & Criminology and Social Work. It offers 54 academic programs, including 33 undergraduate, 12 MPhil/MS/MBA, 8 doctoral programs and an advanced diploma. The Faculty serves approximately 7843 students, supported by 142 full-time and 183 visiting faculty members.
The Faculty embraces student-centered, research-informed and interdisciplinary approaches to learning that extend beyond conventional classroom instruction. Its educational philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, intellectual independence, digital literacy, ethical responsibility and leadership development. Through inquiry-based teaching, experiential learning and contemporary curricula, students develop the knowledge, competencies and perspectives necessary to sail across emerging challenges and become capable professionals, engaged citizens and responsible future leaders.
Research is integral to the Faculty's academic mission. Through rigorous scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based inquiry, it seeks to generate knowledge that informs public policy and addresses pressing challenges in education, governance, economic development, mental health, social inequalities and sustainable development. Its research priorities respond to national development needs while reflecting global commitments, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Recognizing the transformative potential of socially responsive scholarship, the Faculty promotes meaningful engagement with communities, public institutions, development organizations and academic partners at national and international levels. Through collaborative research, field-based learning, knowledge exchange and community-oriented initiatives, it strives to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical solutions to societal challenges.
