Dr. Samia Athar is an esteemed lecturer in the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Sargodha, where she has dedicated her expertise since 2011. In addition to her essential responsibilities of teaching undergraduate, graduate, and masters’ classes, she actively contributes as a valuable member of various departmental committees.
Dr. Athar's primary academic interests lie in the domain of Orientalism, specifically focusing on the attitudes of orientalists towards Seerah writings, Hadith Studies and the modern Muslim world. Her intellectual prowess is evident in her research, culminating in her M. Phil dissertation titled "Karen Armstrong ki Tasnifat-e-Seerat ka Tehqiqi-o-Tanqidi Mutalia" and her PhD dissertation on “Masadar-e-Seerat ki Tarikhiyat ki Behes (Ma’aser Maghribi Tanqeedat ka Ikhtasasi Mutalia)”.
With an impressive research background, Dr. Athar has authored and published 10 research papers in esteemed national and international journals. Her scholarly achievements extend beyond publications as she had the privilege to present her work at renowned conferences. In 2011, she served as a distinguished speaker at the international conference on "Modern Trends in Seerah Writing" held at the International Islamic University, Islamabad. Moreover, her research paper was presented at the International Conference on Religious Studies in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2013.In addition to her scholarly accomplishments, Dr. Athar possesses excellent proficiency in Urdu, English, and Punjabi languages, enabling effective communication and engagement with diverse audiences.
