CS and IT stands first in Sports Gala 2019

The annual Sports Gala for the academic session 2018-19 concluded at Sargodha University on Sunday, March 10, with newly revamped mind games, creativity, innovation and adventure sports.

The University Sports Gala-2019, held on March 1-10 was bigger, livelier and vying, as around 7,000 students of private sub-campuses had also become a part of the grand event.

10-day long Gala was aimed to let the students discover their strengths through sports and learn important life skills such as patience, team-work, sense of responsibility and above all, the sportsman spirit.

Almost 30 sports events including Athletics, Cricket, Table Tennis, football, volleyball, tug of war, body building, badminton and basketball, Water Balls, Pass the Candies, Tick-Tack, Pipe Game and Drink the Cup were made part of the Gala.

The Computer Science and Information Technology (CS & IT) Department lifted the general trophy and won girl’s Badminton, Table Tennis, Tug of War, Chess and Squash title while students of the Department of English stood first in Athletics, Basketball, Handball and Volleyball.

The Department of Psychology stood victorious in Girls Cricket tournament. The boys Cricket tournament was bagged by the Economics Department. The College of Pharmacy bagged the girls Tennis title and the Department of Mathematics won the boys Tennis tournament.

Bodybuilding competitions were also included in the Gala in which Usman Razzaq from the Department of Media and Communication studies won ‘Mr. SU’ title.

The Department of Urdu and Oriental Languages, the College of Agriculture and the Department of Communication and Media Studies stood first in the boy’s categories of Shooting Ball, Tug of War and Handball respectively. In the boys Athletics, the English Department stood first while the trophy of boys Table Tennis was won by the Biotechnology Department.

It may be added here that games and sports are an integral part of the campus life at Sargodha University as they make a significant contribution to the all-round harmonious development of the minds and bodies of the students.
